Hobbs & Shaw (YouTube RuView)

If you choose to go see a Fast & Furious movie in theaters, what are you looking to see? Great action sequences? Laugh-out-loud moments? Awe-inducing spectacle? Hobbs & Shaw delivers on all of that and, for the first time in a while for F&F, tonally balances much of the scantily clad, car-jumping-through buildings absurdity which has weighed down the last few entries. Dwayne Johnson’s chemistry with Jason Statham rivals his back-and-forths with Kevin Hart. Vanessa Kirby is far more than an afterthought, wrangling the other two leads’ pitch-perfect banter with cool ease. Idris Elba embodies the most realistically badass “Black [Terminator] Superman” you could imagine. Hobbs & Shaw does have its cheesy lines and hackneyed plot points. But every time these rear their ugly heads, the strong character dynamics balance them out better than a Thanos snap. Hobbs & Shaw has entertaining humor, “grounded” spectacle, and more than a few surprises that make it the most fun you’ll have all summer. It may even top some lists as the best Fast & Furious movie ever. Check the video above for my full thoughts.
